Dreambird, designed by Nadita, is visually stunning. It is worked mostly in garter stitch. The feathers are shaped using short rows, but there are no wraps to deal with. The knitting is not difficult, but it is very important to pay attention to your knitting! The first two or three feathers will probably not be TV knitting.
Almost any weight yarn can be used. I am using lace-weight yarn and my feathers are about 17” long. Heavier yarn will give you a larger shawl/scarf. Look at the projects on Ravelry for inspiration. The most important thing to remember when choosing your yarns is high contrast for the colors. This is not a project for a subtle color scheme. You want those feathers to really stand out. This will be a four-hour class. Please work a garter stitch swatch before class to select your needle size. Remember that you want your fabric to have drape. If you are unsure about your needle size, bring three or four different sizes to class. We will work most of one feather in the class. Bring pins, stitch markers, your gadget bag of tools, marking tape or magnet board, a copy of your pattern, a pencil or pen for taking notes. Chocolate might be helpful. |
